Arts Discovery and Exploration Weekend #CheckOutBCPL You might not realize it, but the arts are an important part of your daily life. Every movie you watch, or song you listen to, exists because some- body made art their life's work. Through the support and generosity of more than 35,000 contributors to the ArtsWave Community Campaign, Boone County Public Library is celebrating the arts through a full Arts Discovery and Exploration Weekend. Join us at the Main Library on Saturday, September 28 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday, Septem- ber 29 from 1:30 - 3 p.m. when dancers, actors, musicians, and poets perform for free for everyone! We begin the weekend with a performance by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. A woodwind quintet comprised of flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon will perform Claude Debussy's "Petite Suite for Woodwind Quintet Parts" and Paul Taffenel's "Wind Quintet." These professional musi- cians play regularly with the Orchestra The Cincinnati Opera Company brings their Op- era Express Bus to the Library for the very first time! The Opera Express show is a 15-minute performance full of opera favorites! Follow along as they take you on a behind-the-scenes look of how an opera is made. You will go through the audition process, a dress rehearsal, and a final performance, complete with arias from opera favorites, such as "The Barber of Seville," "The Pearl Fishers," and "La Traviata." There will be four of these mini-performances during the two-hour period. *Please note: space for these performances is limited to the first 30 people per session.* Have you ever wanted to watch a Shakespeare play but didn't have the time for a full production? The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's professional Touring Company presents the best of the Bard's sonnets, scenes and monologues from classics like Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth. This is the perfect opportunity for all ages to experience some of Shakespeare's most popular works for the first time or the fifty-first time! The written word is one of the oldest and most widely practiced art forms in the world. Current Cin- cinnati Poet Laureate Manuel Iris will read his own poetry and answer some of the burning questions you may have about the writing process and his own inspiration as a poet! The Cincinnati Ballet is one of the top regional dance companies in the United States. For more than fifty years, they have been a staple in the Greater Cincinnati Area. On Sunday, you will have the opportunity to see Cincinnati Ballet's In-step, an interactive 50-minute program featuring members of Cincinnati Ballet's professional training division. The dancers provide an exciting peek into the typical day in the life of a professional ballet dancer. They will perform excerpts from the Company repertoire in the intimacy of the Library! In addition to all of the activities already mentioned, the Curt Bessette Art Gallery will have "Lasting Impressions," prints by Kathleen Piercefield on exhibit.
